As we age, the effects of aging, gravity, fluctuations in weight, and a loss of skin elasticity all contribute to loss of tone in the thighs. The thigh lift surgery is a surgical procedure utilized to remove skin and fat from the thighs and tighten the skin, improving the contour of the legs. A thigh lift may also be performed in combination with another type of surgery such as an arm lift to give a more improved overall image.
Am I a good candidate for Thigh Lift Sacramento Surgery?
Thigh lift surgery can aid those looking to improve the appearance of their thighs and give them a slimmer and more youthful image. Generally, the best candidates for thigh lift surgery will be those with unwanted excess skin and soft tissue around their thighs. Remember that thigh lift surgery is only for targeting the skin, rather than any layers of fat along the thighs.
Maintaining a stable weight and keeping in good health, along with having realistic expectations for the procedure are all additional and vital factors in determining the candidacy of a patient.
How do I plan for my surgery?
In your initial consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your health, and determine the best course of action for you as an individual. Your doctor should explain any alternative body-contouring methods that may be appropriate and discuss the options or the combination of procedures that would be best for you.
Be frank in discussing your expectations with your surgeon. He or she should be equally frank with you, describing the procedure in detail and explaining its risks and limitations. Your surgeon should also explain the anesthesia he or she will use, the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, and the costs involved.
During this consultation, be sure to tell your surgeon about any large weight losses or gains you’ve had at any time. You should also inform your surgeon if you smoke and if you’re taking any medications, vitamins, or other drugs.
Don’t hesitate to ask your doctor any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results.
How do I prepare for my surgery?
Your plastic surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets, and certain medications. If you develop a cold or an infection of any kind, especially a skin infection, your procedure will have to be postponed.
While you’re making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and, if needed, to help you out for a day or two.
Where will my thigh lift Sacramento surgery be performed?
Your thigh lift surgery will be performed at the New Body MD Surgical Center on an outpatient basis. Thigh lift surgery will usually take two to three hours to perform depending on an amount of correction required. To begin, the surgeon will make the incisions necessary for removal of excess skin and fat. This incision may extend all the way around the thigh or only part of the way around the thigh in the groin crease between the trunk and the thigh. The size of the incision will vary depending on the amount of improvement you are seeking.
After the incision has been made, the surgeon will gently elevate the skin and fat off of the underlying muscles of the thighs. They will then remove excess skin and redrape the original skin over the muscles underneath. Afterwards, one or more drains may be placed beneath the incision to assist in draining any fluid that may accumulate beneath the incision and delay your healing. The incisions are then carefully closed in multiple layers of strong sutures to help minimize your scarring.
What can I expect during my recovery?
After your surgery, a sterile dressing is applied to the incisions, and a compression garment is placed over your thighs. This compression garment will help support your legs during healing, and decrease any post-operative swelling or bruising that may occur. You will need to wear this garment for roughly three weeks following surgery, and the drainage tubes applied earlier will be removed within several days. Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotics for infection or medication for pain.
Healing is a gradual process. Your surgeon will probably tell you to start walking around as soon as possible (to help prevent blood clots from forming in your legs), but to avoid more strenuous activity for two to four weeks. When you resume activity depends on the extent of your procedure, how you feel and what your doctor recommends.
