What is Laser Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing (or laser peel) can combat many signs of aging and skin damage, including wrinkles, lines, scars, sun damage, dark spots (hyperpigmentation), large pores, and more. Breakthroughs in laser technology now allow surgeons even more control of the laser for precision in the most delicate areas.
The patient underwent a 1 Sciton laser resurfacing treatment to correct skin irregularities, skin pigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Who is a Candidate?
Patients with sun-damaged skin, lines or facial wrinkles, irregular changes in skin color, or scars can often benefit from laser skin resurfacing treatment. However, those with active acne, deep wrinkles, or sagging skin may not be a good candidate for laser solutions.
Ideal candidates are generally healthy nonsmokers without active acne or excessively sagging skin, as these conditions can affect treatment outcomes. Patients with lighter skin tones often see the best results, as very dark skin tones may have a higher risk of pigmentation changes.
Dr. Sweat will carefully evaluate your skin’s condition, overall health, and desired outcomes to determine if laser skin resurfacing suits you. With the right preparation and personalized guidance, this treatment can be a transformative step toward achieving radiant, revitalized skin.

The Procedure
Depending on your skin type, the area being treated, and your desired outcomes, your surgeon may choose from one of our ablative laser resurfacing treatments, including CO2 laser resurfacing, Erbium: YAG laser resurfacing, or Variable Pulse Erbium laser resurfacing. During a laser resurfacing procedure, the laser will direct short, targeted light pulses at the treatment areas.
Laser Facial Resurfacing Preparation
Before treatment, you will be given eye protectors to shield your eyes from the laser light. Topical and local anesthesia is often used in combination, and if a deep resurfacing is planned, IV sedation is often used.
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Most ablative laser treatments remove the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. Subsequently, the underlying skin is simultaneously heated, stimulating collagen production for smoother, more youthful-looking new skin.

The Results
Following your laser resurfacing treatments, protective ointments, dressings, and bandages may be applied to the skin; some discomfort may occur, which can be controlled with pain medication. Redness and swelling may also be present. Recovery from laser therapy will depend on the depth of the treatment, with deeper treatments requiring more downtime than lighter treatments. Following Dr. Sweat’s post-op instructions can ensure a safe and quick recovery and optimal facial rejuvenation results.
