What is Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC?

Over time, our skin stops producing as much collagen, we experience volume loss, and the dermis (middle layer) becomes thinner. It’s a natural part of the aging process. Hyaluronic acid is also a natural component of the skin. As some of the original hyaluronic acid fillers on the market with a longstanding history of safety and efficacy, Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC are formulated to restore volume and provide correction to static lines and wrinkles. They can also provide lip enhancement to help combat natural collagen loss.

Who is a Candidate?

A candidate for Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC would have noticeable signs of aging, such as static lines and wrinkles that are superficial to moderate in depth. Also, Juvederm Ultra XC or Ultra Plus XC may also be suitable for lip enhancement depending on your unique lip shape. During your appointment, you can work with Dr. Sweat or one of his personally trained injectors to decide your concerns, the degree of enhancement, and how much filler will be necessary for various areas.

The Procedure

Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus XC are hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers with slightly different uses. The “XC” at the end of the product name means they both contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, for your comfort during and after treatment. Both can give you plump lips, much like Volbella:

Juvéderm Ultra XC is a thinner lip filler used for finer, more superficial vertical lip lines and loss of lip volume.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC is slightly thicker and can treat moderate-depth facial wrinkles and folds, such as those that occur from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth, known as nasolabial (nose-to-lip) folds, or the folds below the corners of the mouth to the chin, known as marionette lines.

The Results

The dermal filler treatment results will be evident immediately, but there will likely be some swelling as well. The swelling will decrease over the following days, and your final result will be seen within a week or two.

If you had lines and folds filled in, such as smile lines (nasolabial folds) or marionette lines, they would be shallower or filled in, depending on the severity of the lines and folds. Dermal fillers add subtle volume and fill depressions to provide a youthful appearance rather than tighten the skin or prevent movement like Botox® would.
