You give your time, your attention, your very life to your children. You get up early, stay up late and make all kinds of sacrifices for them. You look in the mirror one day and don’t even know who is staring back at you. Your body has changed from childbirth, breastfeeding and all of the other activities you’re involved in. You can turn back that clock at least part of the way with a Mommy Makeover.
Take the time for yourself to revitalize, rejuvenate and reclaim the body you had prior to becoming a mother with Mommy Makeover Sacramento.
Mommy Makeover Sacramento surgeries have grown in popularity over the last 10 years consisting mostly of women having a breast augmentation, breast lift (mastopexy) and augmentation and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). This will restore lost volume to the breasts as well as treat laxity of the skin and muscles of the abdomen after being stretched from pregnancy. We now offer the FDA-Approved device ThermiVa® (non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation) and addresses issues related to vaginal laxity post-childbirth. However, with the advances in body contouring, techniques this procedure has evolved to become a more personalized plan for women who have given birth. It might also include liposuction and a breast lift, or possibly even a breast reduction. Simply, the term most commonly refers to restoring breast shape and volume as well as abdominal contour through various procedures after pregnancy or even massive weight loss.
What is this procedure?
A Mommy Makeover is not just one single procedure; it’s a plan to make improvements to your body and to give you confidence in who you are and how you look. Each person works with their surgeon to create a personalized plan that fits their needs and goals. It combines multiple cosmetic procedures that alter the way the person looks. A Mommy Makeover often consists of a breast lift with a possible augmentation, a tummy tuck and possibly liposuction.
What is the recovery?
The recovery process is longer than if just one procedure is completed but shorter than if each one is done individually. The person will require a lot of help for daily tasks for several days and even weeks. The person will be up and moving around after surgery, but they may be required to stay overnight. In addition, the patient will be limited with their daily activities for some time following surgery. They will feel stiff and sore, and they will experience swelling for several weeks.
What results can I expect?
Swelling will last for weeks, which means that the patient won’t be able to see the final results for quite some time. It’s important not to judge the body until then. The patient should expect to see changes, but they should keep their expectations realistic. Each person will be different and respond differently to the procedure.
Am I a candidate?
The ideal candidate is someone in good health who has completed other milestones in their life, such as having children, breastfeeding, losing weight. They are often between the ages of 25 and 55, but they can be any age. The person most likely suffers from sagging breasts, loose skin and excess fat in specific areas.
What is the average cost?
Because the Mommy Makeover consists of multiple procedures, the cost can vary greatly. It often depends on which procedures are performed, the extent of those procedures and the location of the surgeon. While the expense is higher than just having one procedure, it is less expensive than if you chose to have each one done separately.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost is $4,107 for a tummy tuck and breast lift. That being said, it can range from around $5000 to almost $20,000.
I’ve gained weight since becoming a mother. Am I ready to proceed with surgery now or should I consider losing more weight for maximum post-operative results?
Ideally, you want to be at or close to your pre-pregnancy weight, or more importantly, your goal weight before undergoing surgery because further weight loss after the surgery can result in skin laxity and poor results.
Is muscle plication included in the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?
With a full tummy tuck, muscle plication is always included for most patients. This is not the case with a mini tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck is performed in order to correct for abdominal skin and tissue excess mainly below the naval. For some patients muscle tightening below the naval is performed and for others, it is not.
After breastfeeding 2 children, I have lost most of the volume in my breasts. What are my options with breast implants?
The best option is to have a breast augmentation with placement of an implant below the muscle. The gummy bear implant will offer a more cohesive silicone gel and should reduce risks of the implant rippling. If you have lost significant breast volume and have skin laxity a breast lift may also be required. There are multiple different types of breast lift depending on the patient’s skin laxity. However, the most common type of lift incision that Dr. Sweat uses is a vertical or “lollipop” style when also adding an implant.
What would be the benefit of a breast lift as opposed to breast augmentation?
A breast augmentation will only increase the breast volume. It does not necessarily correct for the breast tissue sagging, the breast shape, excess skin, or the nipple/areola position. In order to correct the breast shape and droopiness, sagging of breast tissue, to restore the placement of the nipple/areola a breast lift will be required. The aim of the breast lift is to remove excess skin and to place the nipple/areola over the center of the implants. A combination of breast augmentation and lift is needed in order to create a fullness of the upper breast along with pre-pregnancy nipple/areola position.
What will my belly button look like after I have Sacramento Mommy Makeover surgery?
It depends on who is doing your belly button. Some plastic surgeons favor making the belly button round in shape and other plastic surgeons have described a shield shaped versus a star shaped belly button. Dr. Jeffrey Sweat prefers making a belly button that is partially original and partially recreated with an external skin tab, similar to a shield-shaped belly button. This is consistent with what has been described in the literature as an aesthetically pleasing naval.
What techniques do you utilize to get rid of stretch marks?
There is no replicated and consistent technology to erase stretch marks non-invasively, although some lasers can reduce the redness and raised nature of stretch marks. However, the stretch mark will remain because it represents a breakage of the skin internally. At the present time, permanent and definitive treatment of stretch marks requires surgical excision for removal of the stretch marks. This is done during a tummy tuck with a low sideways incision that should be hidden below a low-cut bikini or underwear. Dr. Sweat is very careful to place the incision very low and remove a portion of the upper pubic area because an incision that is placed too high on the abdomen will stretch the pubic hair onto the lower abdomen and give an unsatisfactory result.
If I gained a normal amount of weight during my pregnancy and plan on having more children in the future, might SculpSure® be an option for a flatter stomach?
SculpSure® is a good procedure to get rid of small bulges on your lower and central abdomen as well as love handles (flanks) that remain after losing excess weight. However, SculpSure is not designed to rid your body skin laxity or tighten the abdominal wall after muscle separation (diastasis). It is designed to rid your body of stubborn fat without surgery.
What surgical advances have you made to optimize the results for your patients?
First, we perform a surgery not specifically designed around a procedure, rather designed around the patient. Dr. Sweat works with each woman to have a blueprint for your desires and needs. Every patient is examined with regard to correction of not only her breasts and abdomen but also, her flanks, back, and buttocks. This gives a complete correction of the body rather than specific anatomical regions. Dr. Sweat will examine your breasts, abdomen, back and buttocks and will recommend procedures that will correct these regions. He commonly performs liposculpting, brazilian butt lift, abdominoplasty, monsplasty, and breast augmentation with or without a breast lift. This offers the patient a complete correction of her breasts and torso. Dr. Sweat also typically performs his signature tummy tuck procedure that produces a more sculpted abdomen.
What happens if I become pregnant after a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck does not preclude a patient from becoming pregnant. In fact, it is not unheard of for a few of our patients to have become pregnant after a tummy tuck. Patients are still able to reach full pregnancy without any complications. However, the full benefits of the tummy tuck procedure will more than likely be lost and the patient may require a redo tummy tuck or a tummy tuck revision.
If I were to become pregnant after my procedure, can I still breastfeed with implants or a lift?
If you are able to breastfeed before breast implant placement, more than likely you will still be able to breastfeed after and the same is true of the breast lift, though there can be no guarantees. Dr. Sweat typically places his breast augmentation incision at the inframammary crease (under the breast) and places the implant under the muscle (submuscular). This avoids incising the breast and potentially damaging the milk ducts. When a breast lift is involved, most commonly an incision is created all the way around the nipple (areola), but the nipple is not actually detached from the breast, which should also leave the milk ducts intact.
What should I look for when I am trying to choose a board certified plastic surgeon to perform my surgery?
It is important to know a plastic surgeon’s board certification (and which medical board has certified the doctor) and experience not only in Mommy Makeover Sacramento surgery but also in body contouring. Look at the quality of the scar and contour correction. A picture is worth more than a thousand words. Dr. Sweat encourages all of his patients to critically examine every before and plastic surgery photo and know the training, background, and certification of her doctor.
