Welcome to our website
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to get to know a little more about my training and background. Having grown up in rural Kansas, my first exposure to medicine was with my hometown family practice doctor. I was fascinated by the relationships she formed with her patients and knew that my heart was drawn to medicine, initially thinking that I would return to rural Kansas as a family practice doctor. I entered into medical school at the University of Kansas after completing undergraduate studies at Kansas State University with an undergraduate major in Life Sciences and minors in Business and Spanish. It was during medical school that I had my first exposure to surgery as a third-year medical student then plastic surgery early in my fourth and final year of medical school. After getting a taste of plastic surgery and seeing how a surgeon could have such a dramatic impact on a person’s life, I knew that my calling was in plastic surgery. Whether ravaged by cancer or trauma and in need of reconstruction or even just fixing a minor flaw which can eat at a person’s sense of well-being and self-esteem, I realized that the work of a plastic surgeon can dramatically and fairly quickly impact peoples’ lives in a very positive way.
My progression toward plastic surgery
My course changed from Family Practice to Surgery and I went on to complete a residency in General Surgery at the University of Kansas-Wichita program. In 2007 I sat for my general surgery boards and attained Board Certification in General Surgery, though I do not maintain that certification currently. After completing the General Surgery residency in 2006, I moved to Sacramento to complete my Plastic Surgery residency at the University of California, Davis. Upon completion of that residency, I realized that the fair climate and abundance of outdoor activities in Sacramento tugged at my heartstrings to stay in the area. A friendly mix of people, close proximity to a diverse culture in San Francisco, wine country, and snow skiing in Tahoe, as well as water skiing in the summer in Sacramento, made this area an ideal location to live and practice medicine. I joined a large multi-specialty practice, Mercy Medical Group, in the summer of 2008 and helped thousands of area residents become their best self through both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. I achieved board certification in Plastic Surgery in the fall of 2011 and actively maintain that certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program.
Stepping into plastic surgery private practice
In the spring of 2015, I left Mercy Medical Group to start a private practice and have slowly transitioned my practice from a mix of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to mostly focus on cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, mixing in both surgical and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. I maintain privileges with Mercy General Hospital as well as Mercy San Juan Hospital (MSJH). In addition to taking trauma call at MSJH, with a continued mix of reconstructive surgery, I also serve as the Division Chief of Plastic Surgery for MSJH. I have been the Chief Medical Director of New Body MD Surgery Center and Medical Spa since the spring of 2016. I am a member of the America Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), a Candidate Member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), and a member of the Greater Sacramento Society of Plastic Surgeons (GSSPS).
My goal is to help my patients understand the process and recovery
My philosophy as a Plastic Surgeon and Physician has always been to help my patients create and celebrate the best of themselves in a comfortable atmosphere where patients can build an open relationship with their surgeon. While plastic surgery can be intimidating and the information can be overwhelming, I will do my best to explain the risks and benefits of surgery to all of my patients in a way they can understand so they can go into surgery fully informed and make decisions that best fit their goals. My goal is to be transparent and open and to manage expectations as well as help patients understand the process and recovery. I look forward to meeting with you prior to your surgery so that we can discuss your needs and help you make an informed decision. If you have any questions, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
